PTCL has launched the first 3G enabled android phone “IVIO Icon Pro” in Pakistan. Utilising PTCLs’ existing 3G services this device actually allows you to browse using 3G. You can also use the device as a Wi-Fi AP allowing other devices to connect to your phone and browse using 3G. You can use GSM SIM from any service provider so you don’t have to worry about changing your mobile operator.
One of the biggest advantage could be the ability to have simultaneously active data and voice connections. This is a major limitation of GPRS/EDGE; so if you’re downloading a file and someone calls, then either they will get an “error in connection” or your download will be cancelled. This will not be the case with this phone as the data connection will be using the PTCL 3G network while your calls will be handled by the GSM operator.
The device is currently available in 2 packages:
- EVO Wind: Smartphone + 15GB data (6 months validity)
- EVO Wings: Smartphone + 5GB data (3 months validity)
Subsequent recharges are at Rs. 999 for EVO Wings and Rs. 1999 for EVO Wind
